When babies are born, they are quite a handful to handle but they are our little humans and we ought to take care of them and nurture them and help them grow. That is how the cycle of life continues since inception. The nine months of pregnancy are no less than a roller-coaster ride for parents, especially, mothers. They go through such huge transitions from their body to their mood swings to their foot size to their taste buds and a completely different lifestyle after the baby is born. Mothers truly sacrifice so much to bring new life into this world. However, if you are a new mother or if it is your first baby then you will need to learn a lot before finally bringing the baby home. Having a teeny tiny human is beautiful but who knew that these tiny humans could need so much stuff that might even occupy your entire room! The little tikes take up a lot of space, be it in your house, your car, or even your bag! There are so many items that need to be carried with a baby that you will need an entirely separate bag for it. You can no longer carry a small discreet purse with just your lipstick and wallet. Now you will need to carry a separate bag for the baby wherever you go.
We have you covered! We are going to break down all the items and their necessity in our review below so you will know the “must-haves” in your baby bag.
1- Portable Changing Pad
The first item that goes into the bag is a portable changing pad or sheet. Babies have three jobs: Feed, sleep, poop, and repeat! They are literal poop machines and will need a diaper change at least 5-6 times in a day. A portable changing pad comes in handy when you are on the go and in case nature calls for your baby you can immediately change the diaper without creating a mess by using this diaper changing pad.
2- Diapers!
The most important item is of course: Diapers! You will need at least 1 diaper for every hour you are out, however, we advise you to keep a couple of extra diapers just to be safe.
3- Sanitary Bags to dispose used diapers
The next item should be clean sanitary bags to dispose dirty diapers of your little one. Make sure to dispose these bags in a trash bin or toilet bins and be a responsible hygiene friendly citizen.
4- Baby Wipes
This item really comes in handy. A pack of baby wipes is your best friend when you have a little baby on board. These wipes can be used to clean the dirty works of your baby. While changing the diapers, or to clean the baby’s mouth after feeding. These wipes are super easy and convenient to use and can be disposed after use so no need to wash them like towels.
5- Rash Cream
Diapers can cause a rash on your baby’s soft and gentle skin. Since the babies are wearing diapers 24/7 they get rashes on their bums that is when a rash cream comes in handy. These creams are easily available at all drugstores under different brand names. A rash cream would soothe your baby’s irritated skin and heal the rash within hours.
6- Bibs
A bib is very important for babies, especially, during their feeding time. Babies puke a lot and spill a lot of milk and ruin all their clothes, that is why a bib is used to soak up all the puking and spilling.
7- A Hand Sanitizer
Hygiene is extremely important while dealing with babies and when you are traveling you cannot go and wash your hands every once in a while that is why you will need a pocket-sized hand sanitizer with you at all times. Remember to use it every time you change the diapers or feed the baby or change their clothes so the baby does not get any germs.
8- An extra pair of clothes
Always make sure to keep an extra pair of clothes in your baby bag with you at all times, you never know when you may need it. Babies can be really messy and can mess up their clothes in no time. So an extra set of clothes always come in handy.
9- A baby hat
Babies need to be protected from extreme weather conditions and since most babies have little to no hair, their heads are always exposed to weather conditions like sunlight and even wind and snow. So always make sure to cover the baby’s head while you are out. Keep a hat according to the season and make sure your baby is wearing it when you are out.
10- Baby blanket
Babies in their initial few weeks tend to sleep a lot. Believe it or not but a newborn baby sleeps for up to 16 hours a day! So there is a good chance that your baby may start snoozing any minute while you are out which is why we suggest you to always carry a baby blanket in the baby bag.
11- Clean Bottles (For formula milk babies)
If your baby is on formula feed then you may need extra set of clean bottles along with the formula and water.
12- A Toy or Rattle
Babies can get fussy sometimes and need to be entertained, a toy or rattle always comes in handy during these situations. Whenever the baby starts crying shake a rattle in front of his face and he will get amused within minutes.
13- A sunscreen lotion (for babies over 6 months)
If you are planning to hit the beach with your little bundle of joy then do keep a sunscreen appropriate for baby skin. Babies have really sensitive skin and are prone to rashes and sunburns. So always protect them. Also, carry a bottle of baby lotion on normal days.
We hope that this rundown will prove to be helpful for all new parents. Have a safe trip with your little one.
