As parents, we spend months in anticipation of holding our bundle of joy in our arms. However, when its time and the baby arrives, it brings a lot of new responsibilities for parents. The trickiest job in the world: Parenting! We get accustomed to taking care of our kids over a course of time but parenting a newborn baby is something that no one is truly prepared for. Here are a few tips that will give you a heads up about the dos and don’ts of baby parenting.

- Make hygiene a priority as infants are prone to catching infections.

- Always hold your baby with extra care by supporting the baby’s neck and back.

- Always use clean diapers and nappies and make sure to keep a rash cream just in case the baby gets a rash on those cute little bums.

- Bathe your baby with a sponge bath.

- A newborn baby sleeps for 16 hours a day or more. So don’t worry if you think your baby sleeps a lot, all of them do.

- Get help! Being a parent is a full-time job and nobody has it all figured out. So if you feel like you are not doing a good enough job then get help. Get a nanny or call someone in the family to support you at this time.

- Know that your newborn is not ready for rough play until the age of 6 months at least.

- Just like adults, babies love massages too! As per research, a massage is good for a baby’s growth and development.

- Swaddle the baby in a comfy wrap and make sure the fabric is appropriate to the weather so the baby doesn’t feel too hot or too cold.

- Babies should only be swaddled until the age of 2 months.

- You will need baby wipes! Lots and lots of them!

- Burping the baby is important right after you feed him. This helps with digestion and prevents any kind of digestive problem.

- An infant should be fed every 2 to 3 hours. In case you’re breastfeeding, allow your infant to nurture around 10–15 minutes at each breast. In case the baby is on formula milk, your child will take around 2–3 ounces (60–90 milliliters) at each feeding.

- While burping the baby, hold your infant upright with their head on your shoulder. Give support to your infant’s head and back while gently patting or rubbing the back with your other hand.

- Babies usually snooze for a duration of 2–4 hours. Try not to expect yours to stay asleep all through the night — the digestion of babies is little to the point that they need sustenance at regular intervals and need to be fed every few hours and need to be awakened if they haven’t been fed for 4 hours our more.
